The trades are coming quickly now, so I thought I would take
a moment to put in my two cents about what I’ve observed from the keeper
trading.
It’s only fun for some people: It’s become clear who really
enjoys this process. I won’t name names here, but it is clear that this March
Madness is not for everyone, and that is just fine. Interestingly, some of the
people that are the most into it, haven’t even made a trade yet.
Analysis of the trades so far:
After the initial sticker shock of the Kris Bryant/Jose
Abreu trade, I actually don’t think this deal was that lopsided. Don’t get me
wrong, Arthur was still jumping in with both feet to prevent any out-bids from
coming in, but he is getting a large amount of talent coming back. During the
trade review period, I tried to come up with ways to sell one of my high end
keepers to Arthur, but I wasn’t willing to do the trade for much less than a 2nd
round pick. In summary, Dave had an incredible amount of talent to sell and he
is going to have a big leg up on the field going into the year….but he can’t
win the league on draft day.
I will be brief on the pending trades:
Masahiro Tanaka for a 14th round pick: I really
don’t get this one. Tanaka has to be kept in the 9th round but he is
ranked to be drafted in the 11th, even pulling out some keepers to
raise his expected draft round to the 9th round, Arthur is still
paying a price.
Matt Carpenter for a 12th: Carpenter is to go in
the 5th round, so with him being kept in the 11th, Cory
is getting some very good value here at a relatively low price.
Jacob deGrom for a 12th: being kept in the 7th
round with a 3rd round ranking, this stud is also a relatively cheap
buy for Paul. It will be a good anchor for his pitching.
Trades to come: depending on the draft day we have about 10
to 14 days of trading remaining. Keith has a spot available for a keeper, team
BJ could choose to upgrade if they wanted to, but don’t forget about teams with
items to sell, Dean and Max both have players that could use a home before
draft day. Happy trading
