Michael held off Matt 9-5 in
a matchup that was looking a lot more one-sided mid week. Matt had a big
pitching weekend from stupid Yu Darvish and Sonny Gray to pick up a few
pitching categories to keep this one close. Michael got off to a hot start to
the week but cooled by the second weekend. Michael is sitting well, though,
tied for second in the power rankings after getting NOTHING out of Paul
Goldschmidt 10 days in.
Max and Dave had a highly
entertaining matchup that was back and forth throughout the week, but left Max
coming out on top by week's end. Starring for Max was Robbie Ray who somehow got
2 wins with a 5.73 ERA and 7 runs allowed.
The hitting was fairly futile in this one, neither team hitting above
.245 and Max’s team striking out a rather impressive 114 times, that’s
literally 60% more than Dean’s 71 Ks. No bueno. Dave put up a sub-3.00 ERA but put
up even less offense than Max and will lick his wounds after this demoralizing
loss….to Max.
Arthur beat Keith on a good
overall team performance. Arthur led the league in Home Runs, but also tied for
last in batting average, so…he’s the Yankees, go figure. Arthur also had a very
good pitching week with a 2.27 ERA over 67 innings. Keith didn’t have a week to
write home about, middling in offense and at the bottom of the league in
pitching; he’ll be looking for a bounce back next week.
Cory edged out a very
curiously constructed Dean team. Dean chose to roster a number of injured
players AND wait on Greg Holland that signed on opening day to be the Cardinals
closer…which hasn’t happened yet but is supposed to start today. Injuries aren’t
going to strike all teams equally, and I’d never argue that guys like Justin
Turner should be cut, but injured Danny Salazar and Mark Melancon are not guys
this league would be rushing to the waiver wire to grab. Time will tell if the
panic sell on Kenley Jansen was the right play or not. Back to the matchup,
Cory had a good week here posting a 3.21 ERA over 70 innings and getting enough
HRs and Stolen Bases to beat what is projected to be a good Dean team. It was a
close matchup with Cory coming out just on top. Also, I heard that Rhys Hoskins
found out I called him a bust so he he hit .440 with 7 walks this week.
Finally, Paul and the
Brian/Josh tandem tied this week. Ol’ BJ’s pitching came to play in this one,
not even giving up and earned run until well into the matchup and ending up
with a 2.01 ERA over 71.2 innings and a good pitching K number of 84 in those
71.2 innings (K per 9 of 10.54). Their hitting though was very power-oriented
though with 19 HRs and a .224 batting average. Paul just edged out a number of
close hitting categories to get the tie.
