Week 2: Bad Offenses and a Commissioner Under Water

Floored added another member on March 10th as Ruth Ellis, or RE, entered the Smyth family. Big brother, George, or G, celebrated with an Easter Egg hunt while still learning how to smile in pictures. Not pictured here are 3 AM wake up calls, a baby with tummy troubles, and a toddler who doesn’t like to sit down…oh wait they’re all right there.

Dean and Carl made a move up the Power Ranks in week 2 but not much else changed. League wide offense is down…or at least was down in fantasy week 2. For example, in 2020 we averaged 10.8 Home Runs per team per week but we were down to 8.8 last week. Time will tell if this is about the new baseball that has more drag or if it’s just a blip on the radar with the cold temperatures from last week. I had felt like there were more PPDs last week than normal but league wide At Bat totals were in line with past averages. It’s a marathon and not a sprint this year with 20 weeks left, so we’ll hold off on any more league trend observations.

With time short this week, we’ll just straight into some quick hitting matchup highlights:

Our new Power Ranks leader on the year, Dean, took Paul down in a one-sided blowout. Dean rode 4 Home Runs from Wilson Contreras in this one as Paul just couldn’t keep up.

The other big blowout had Carl putting Cory back in his place after Cory’s blistering week 1 pitching performance. Zach Plesac single handedly ended this one for Cory with a day that ruined the week against Carl who had a great pitching week himself.

Michael and Keith basically tied, no one really doing anything spectacular, but both had pitching weeks they could be proud of. Both of their offenses resembled the league as a whole this week: less than 10 HRs, sub .250 AVG. Fernando Tatis Jr. came back for Michael, but Michael isn't too pumped about him probably coming back too soon.

Brian and Josh held off Dave despite only hitting .204 on the week. Dave’s pitching leaves much to be desired right now and just hasn’t been able to keep up with his opponents. BJ cooled down a lot after week 1 but did enough to win.

Arthur beat Acuna and Vlad Jr…I mean Max…this week. Max has two of the top 5 ranked players right now, but even with a pitching staff that put up a sub 3.00 ERA, they weren’t enough to beat Arthur. Arthur would like for me to point out that he still won even though he didn’t have Alex Bregman due to COVID precautions, but I’ll add that his opponent was also without his stud Astro for the same reason.

Hopefully this week I’ll get to write the fun blog about how Elite Relief Pitching has unfolded, but until then, pour one out for my free time.
