Week 7: The biggest feuds in Floored history

Michael took the family to the Braves game on Sunday. It was Ruth’s first game. As you can see. She. Was. Pumped. The blog queue is a little light on photos from anyone other than Arthur and Dean. Send me the fun images from your life and we’ll get em in the blog.

Carl has entered the realm of an ‘elite’ team getting his power rank in the 3s. He is the second team to get there (since week 1) this year, Arthur briefly being ranked in the 3s after week 3. We’ll see if Carl can retain the elite status. Dean and Arthur remain hot on Carl’s heels to round out the top tier. BJ was the big faller on the week losing over a full point off their power rank from 4.4 to 5.5. Paul bounced off the bottom to show some signs of life. Max? Well, I hear business is good.

After the Joc Pederson vs Tommy Pham beef this week (in case you’ve been under a rock: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/05/28/sports/baseball/joc-pederson-tommy-pham-slap.html), I got to thinking…what have been the biggest beefs in OUR league? We’ve been going at this for 15 years now, there’s history. Some of these were real drama, some of these are/were silly. Hopefully they’re a trip down memory lane for all.

1.  Arthur vs Michael. This one dates back to the early years of the league. Arthur was…well…a more profane version of the caps lock persona we all know today, and Michael was a fired up and oversensitive ~24 year old who had no idea who Arthur was (Arthur came into the league as a friend of Max). I can’t even remember what it was about back then, but it wasn’t pretty and the league almost fell apart over it. Thanks to Dave and Max for playing peacekeepers, the league survived and has thrived since then.

2. Cory vs the 30 Innings Pitched minimum. Every year since the 30 IP requirement came into the league, around June, the watch is on for Cory to hit his weekly thresholds. Cory generally has a pretty good team, but around June, it’s summer time, and summer time means fun time for General Meyer and that 30 IP number is just not a priority. Tehane (Google tells me that is ‘have fun’ in Hebrew)

3. Paul vs Roster Expansion (before this year of course). The idea of making rosters bigger has been floated before. For one reason or another (all valid reasons, of course), Paul has always been a vocal opponent. It took us figuring out how to maximize team value through streaming the last few years and the nuisance that went along with that for Paul to get on board with big changes this year.

4. Max vs fantasy team success. I say this tongue in cheek, of course. Max has had plenty of good fantasy teams before, he has just hasn’t been able to summit that mountain yet. Max has been in the playoffs twice in his Floored career, but hasn’t gotten out of the first round. Come on Max, we’re cheering for you.

5. Dave vs starting his offense against Michael in 2021. This one got pretty brutal. Talking heads from all around the league had something to say about what Dave decided to do when Michael’s team was cruising off hot keepers and early season breakouts. It turned out to maybe help Dave a little bit in the standings…but we all know the truth…Dave just wanted to stir things up, and that he did.

6. Carl vs the status quo. One plus years into the league and Carl has made himself right at home in Floored. He has not been afraid to shy away from confrontation or share his thoughts on league activities. Whether it’s ignored trade offers or rejected trade offers Carl thinks should have been accepted or rule changes or an accepted trade that Michael forgot to push in time for Carl to get a starting pitcher for an off day, Carl is quick to make his voice be heard. It’s certainly not all confrontation, Carl is quick to give kudos and share his observations. He’s been a great addition to the league.

7. Dean vs qualitative arguments. I don’t have a status on Dean’s next market inefficiency he’ll find with the new rules. But if you don’t have data to make your point in a debate with Dean, try again.

8. Dave vs quantitative arguments. Though I’ll admit he’s kinda turned me around about the ‘impending free agent year’ performance guy.

9. Josh vs drafting his team. Even back in the day when he had his own team, draft day was always a challenge. One year it really paid off for him getting the top power ranked team heading into the playoffs. And now? Brian drafts their team in professional fashion, leading to a league championship a few years ago. So, I guess if it ain’t broke don’t fix it?

10. Keith vs paying off his Bourbon Street prize. Just saying. The BSC has been around for a minute but I haven’t seen any bottles exchanged.
