Arthur ends the year with a strong finish to claim the 2022 Power Ranks title. It was an up and down year but Aaron Judge hitting 50% more home runs than the rest of the league can carry a fantasy team a long way. Dean is the tough luck champion of the year, finishing 2nd in the power ranks but 7th in the Yahoo Standings. Dean has had a very time consuming job role this year and wasn’t able to make hardly any moves throughout the year. More on his story next week. Cory also would like to have a word as he ends the year T3 in the power ranks but misses the playoffs by a measly 2 games in the Yahoo Standings. Brian and Josh were the beneficiaries of their tough luck with BJ somehow ending the year with a 5.57 power rank (6th place this year) and ending up in the Championship Bracket.

But what good are full season power ranks when we’re trying to see who’s going to win the league?

Here’s how everyone is playing lately:

Cory again? Playoff teams are breathing a sign of relief THAT guy missed the playoffs. There’s a little bit of separation between Brian and Josh and the rest of the playoff teams from the previous 4 week table, but not much, basically the same margin they trailed the top tier most of the year; don’t start doubting them now. Michael and Carl are the laggards over the final 2 weeks, barely sneaking in this last week. With this in mind, Arthur would shape up to be the favorite heading into the playoffs, winning the full season power ranks as well as coming in the hottest team. Let’s see how it plays out.

Let’s walk through a quick season review for the 4 teams that will be competing for a championship this year, in Yahoo Standings finish order:

Arthur, as has been previously noted, was shopping Aaron Judge during preseason keeper trading season, before realizing that Judge was not keepable this year….however Arthur was bought in enough on Judge to re-acquire him in the 2nd round. Arthur’s other best draft picks were a handful of rookies like Bobby Witt Jr. and 14th round Julio Rodriguez as well as 18th round C.J. Cron. These hitters and keeping pitcher Shohei Ohtani have set Arthur up very well this year. Arthur’s best free agent add of the year, Kyle Wright, leads the majors in Wins this year. Arthur is seeking his first Floored title since 2008.

Brian and Josh and their lucky rabbit’s foot head into the playoffs with a lot of high end talent in names like Nolan Arenado, Kyle Tucker, Dylan Cease, and Carlos Rodon as well as scorching hot pickups like Jake McCarthy (that Michael dropped for some reason three weeks ago), Elvis Andrus, and Spencer Strider. The back half of their roster has been fairly fluid this year, but they’ve done a good job playing the matchups week in and week out to keep their momentum alive. Team BJ knows what they’re doing and will surely have a chip on their shoulder with all the tough luck comments here in the blog. Watch out. BJ is seeking their first Floored title since 2017.

Carl made an impressive second half surge to make his first Floored Playoffs. The big news from Carl’s year was his trade deadline acquisitions: Vlad Guerrero Jr., Corbin Burnes, Jacob DeGrom, and Kris Bryant; literally three new first round picks. Carl’s many roster construction optimization ideas have him set up with three catchers and position flexibility up and down his roster. Carl’s best draft picks were names like Daulton Varsho and Eugeno Suarez in round 20, Nestor Cortes (who was unfortunately dropped relatively early) in round 25, and Josh Rojas in round 29. Some great late round names.

Michael wasn’t sure if he had a spot in the playoffs until 5:00 on Sunday, it was a pins and needles weekend for him. Michael also had a big second half surge, but it was mostly driven by midseason pickup hitters Christian Walker and Yandy Diaz and late round pitcher draft picks Tyler Anderson and Jordon Montgomery as well as pickup Martin Perez. Michael enters the playoffs with a mixed bag of a roster that has suddenly struggled for two weeks after cruising for the final few months. Michael is seeking his first Floored title since 2020, but his first head to head title since 2014.

Strap in and let’s crown ourselves a champion!
