Week 4, The Week of the Blowout

Dean got 4th overall in a triathlon on Saturday, posing here with his mom. Quoting from his recommended caption, “meanwhile, his fantasy team’s WHIP looked like an ERA and their ERA looked like Michael’s running pace.” Michael was flattered.

OK so Cory has secured April as his month. He had the draft head start, he had good keepers, he executed. Having Aaron Judge helped a non-zero amount. Meanwhile Dean is close to needing to go back to the drawing board. Sitting in 9th in what is shaping up to be a tight leaderboard, his strategy of “take on a bunch of injury risk because I have a huge talent head start” has not gone well. His injuries have gotten worse and his early picks have done poorly.  Among his top thirteen round picks (AKA through keepers), Dean had 17 of them, only 8 of those players are still ranked in the top 130 and only about 3 have kept pace with their draft day value. Tough go so far.

About those standings, we literally have a 4-way tie at the top (one of those teams does include the lagging-power-ranked Dean). There has been significant week-to-week fluctuation. Over the last 5 years, this year has had the highest EWW week to week by team fluctuation, by far. Normal variation is 1.14, but this year it is 1.41.

Week 1 to 4 Variation of Expected Week Wins, 2021 to 2025

That means that we are still settling into who we are going to be moreso this year than in year’s past. So as we go up and down, more teams are still coming out looking competitive. Check out that Kevin number this year, though, modicum of consistency.

EWW and WOE for Week 4

Max missed the 30 innings pitched threshold this week, meaning that Yahoo gave him 0 pitching standings points, but it was no matter, Keith had won all the pitching categories anyway. While there were a ton of blowouts, there was really only 1 bad team performance week. So, while Michael and Arthur and Kevin got blown out, they didn’t deserve to, each with an EWW over 6.4 for the week. We tip the hat to Cory, Dave, and Paul who each had big weeks and get back after it again this week.
