Week 6: Moving Time

We are six weeks into the twenty two week regular season, teams can now see who they are, what they’re good at, and what they can get better at. Dave is great. He knows it, we know it, and I’m not gonna talk too much more about it the rest of the year because it’s kinda boring and sad to talk about. Quick side note, he is actually dominating us right now with free agent guys, so there are no excuses for us.

Back to the week review and look ahead. It’s trading season. The keeper trading deadline is 6 weeks away, so if you think a guy like Trevor Story will hit 35 home runs, send Max an offer. Good luck though, Max thinks Story is going to his 40 home runs and hit .300 and strike out less than 200 times…because well, who knows why. The point is, it is clear from the graph above that we are all about even right now. I know I sent a bunch of trade offers and text messages out last night, who wants to play some trade-ball?

Michael squeezed past Arthur last week despite an ERA that was in the double digits late into Friday. Arthur just doesn’t have enough offense right now to compete on a week to week basis. Michael’s offense has hit his stride since benching his second round pick, Justin Upton. Upton is toting a ridiculous 40% strikeout rate and just isn’t playable right now.

Dean eased past Keith on the strength of…well Keith’s bad pitching. Dean put up good pitching numbers but they weren’t really necessary. Keith did hit 12 HRs with a .294 AVG, but that won’t be enough to beat Dean without some supporting BB/K/pitching numbers. Keith did make a good pickup late Sunday to try to pick up a pitching win (learning from his Max of the Week last week) but it didn’t work out.

Paul beat Cory on Cory’s weak offense. Cory has one of the more unbalanced teams right now. Despite Jose Fernandez struggling, Cory still has the dominant pitching staff in the league; yet Cory’s offense is way behind the pack in 9th place. This sets up for some interesting trading. Paul had solid numbers all around to pick up the win. Big win for Paul to beat a very good team.

Dave sprinted past Josh Waring with Brian still out of town. Josh put up good hitting numbers including 15 HRs and a .292 AVG, but lost to Dave in pitching. He also mis-stepped by not streaming a pitcher for Sunday. Tied in wins with Dave set up for a pitcher the next day, Josh should have grabbed someone to try to compete. Strong contender for Max of the week.

Josh Marcley beat Max, ending Max’s 3 game win streak. Both teams kinda sucked in different ways to be honest, but Marcley just had a little more offensive power, plus Max put up a whopping 70 offensive strikeouts, no Bueno. An interesting note here is Marcley’s bullpen. Not known to carry a stable of RPs, he put up 8 saves this week. With names like Rodney, the Colorado closer, and Francisco Rodriguez it’s certainly not a bullpen I would have called top 3 at the start of the season, but right now that’s where Marcley ranks in Saves for the year. Sounds like a sell high to me.

Monster of the week: ignoring Dave’s ridiculous 90+ hits, its Michael’s .330 average. That’ huge, he was beating Arthur by 100 batting average points most of the week.

Max of the week: despite texting me on Sunday night defending his pitching strategy, it’s Josh Waring for not making a move on Saturday to go up against Dave on Sunday. When you play the number one team, ya gotta bring the A game.
