We’re gonna change the pace a little bit for this week’s blog. I sent the updated stats out earlier in the week but there wasn’t too much to talk about other than BJ majorly blew it last week falling from 2nd to 7th. I also scrapped the idea of writing a blog complaining about things, y’all just don’t need to read that.

Instead, I performed the task of calculating everyone’s strength of schedule. Granted, I got this idea for selfish reasons; I feel like I’ve been facing more monster opponents than not. But hey, get your own blog if you don’t like it.

Here is the first set of Results:

What we see here is that team Brian and Josh has faced a fairly significantly harder schedule than the rest of the league this year. Arthur, Michael and Marcley have faced the next toughest tier of opponents so far. Dean and Cory have been facing a relative cake walk so far. You two please save the comment that that is because you’ve already gotten to play me twice so far. Oh, and check out Cory’s pitching opponent’s ranks. Kinda insulting given that he also already has the best pitching stats independent of opponent’s ranks. There is probably a correlation there: people chasing stats via streaming to keep up and then streaming poorly.

After I shared some of these results with Dean, he pointed out that there is a potential flaw with this analysis, it takes into account combined year to date, which really doesn’t matter when we’re talking about a weekly league. So I re-did the analysis simply calculating where everyone’s opponent ranked in the league’s power rankings for that week only. I understand this is a tad complex. Think of it like this, the table above takes into account that BJ has hypothetically had to face opponents with 300 SB combined on the year, but does that matter for his next week’s opponent SB total? No. The following way of showing the stats removes the magnitude of combined statistical anomalies on the year. It simply shows how good did your opponent’s week rank compared to the league in the week that you played them. Here are the results.

This narrows the results a bit, but the overall takeaways are similar, BJ has still faced the toughest schedule and Dean and Cory are still pulling up the rear. There are more conclusions that can be drawn from this, but I don’t have the time to get into it right now and I’m not sure if I’ve fully thought them out nor if the conclusions I’m drawing are correct or make sense.
